Humber Downtown - Career Mentorship Program

The Career Mentorship Program (CMP) aims to support students in making a successful and informed transition from Humber into the professional workforce, preferably in their field of interest. The program is offered each semester and learners have the option to register in either Winter, Spring, and Fall semesters.

Why Participate?

Mentees will:

  • Explore how their personal, professional, and academic backgrounds relate to the industry/occupation of their interest;
  • Receive guidance, advice and insight from a professional in the industry/occupation of their interest
  • Get support in achieving their personal & professional development goals
  • Develop networking skills and expand their professional networks.

Mentors will:

  • Share their expertise and advice to support the transition of a graduate student into the Canadian workforce
  • Enhance their professional career portfolio and develop leadership skills
  • Give back to the community, pay it forward and make an impact in someone’s career
  • Connect with professionals and expand their own network

STUDENT MENTEE:

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a current student or alumni of Humber Downtown.
  • Be in good academic standing.
  • Be available and committed to connecting with your mentor at least 6 times over a 15-week mentorship period.
  • Be open to feedback, professional growth, and building a respectful, supportive mentoring relationship.

Program Requirements

  • Complete a Mentee Application Form and Needs Assessment to help ensure a meaningful match.
  • Track your progress and key takeaways after each mentorship meeting.
  • Commit to a 15-week mentorship match with a minimum of 6 interactions (up to 1 hour each).
  • Communicate regularly, professionally, and respectfully with both your mentor and the Mentorship Coordinator. Lack of communication may result in removal from the program.
  • Complete a Final Engagement Report at the end of the mentorship period.

INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL MENTOR:

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be an industry professional with 2+ years of experience working in your field and a commitment to supporting students in their career development.
  • Be working in your field in Canada (preferably in the GTA).
  • Be open to mentoring at least 1 mentee, with the option of mentoring up to 4.
  • Be available and committed to connecting with your mentee(s) as per program expectations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, respect for diversity, and a genuine interest in giving back to the community by helping students navigate their career paths.

Program Requirements

  • Commit to a mentorship match for 15 weeks, with a minimum of 6 mentoring sessions (up to 1 hour each) delivered virtually, by phone, or in person — approximately once every 2.5 weeks.
  • Complete a Final Engagement Survey at the end of your mentorship match.
  • Maintain professional, respectful communication and foster a supportive environment for student learning and growth
